SnagIt 9.0.0.351

The first application that I would like to add to the Applicatory is the program that I will use constantly for future applications that I will review here - SnagIt!

What does SnagIt do?

SnagIt is a utility that specializes in taking screenshots of the screen, windows, scrollable web pages, and screen areas.

Why is it in the Applicatory?

What I personally love about SnagIt is its interface and features. You can see on the screenshot below that all of the functions you need are easily accessible on the main menu.

The interface has a Windows Explorer XP feel to it with icons and all to get whatever type of capture that you need. Then after you choose what you want to do, simply click the big red button on the bottom right and you will take a snapshot using whatever profile you selected. Simple isn't it?

Now most of you will be wondering, why use this application if you can just use the Print Screen key found on most keyboards and then pasting it to MS Paint? Print Screen is only limited to 2 functions that is Full Screen or Active Window. The new snipping tool exclusively for Windows Vista may capture screen areas which may rival the main functions of SnagIt, but this is where SnagIt totally excels.

After you captured your screenshot, up comes the SnagIt Editor which is also included.

See that interface? It's the Microsoft Office 2007 ribbon which I personally love! In the sample image above, the white space represents whatever you captured on the screen. You may first notice that there was no pasting involved unlike the traditional Print Screen method. Also exclusive to version 9, you have a library of snapshots that you taken in the past in addition to the new ribbon interface making it easy to make alterations to your screen capture. Snapshots are automatically saved as well and usually don't take up much space.

My favorite feature of SnagIt is the different clip arts you can add to your snapshot such as arrows, ballons, edge effects, shadows, and more! After you're done altering the snapshot, you can send it to the clipboard or send it to some of the common applications such as MS Office or MS Paint. You may also export it as a JPEG or PNG or even e-mail it.

Bottom Line

SnagIt is not free however, but a 30-day trial version is available on their homepage at TechSmith. For just $50, you can own your personal copy of this wonderful program and never worry about finding another screen capture tool ever again. I may post a freeware screen capturing tool in the future for all you freeware lovers. For me, this is clearly the best screen capturing tool out there and I strongly recommend it to those who often use the Print Screen key and get tired of it or to those who love making documentations of website forms, applications, and regular programs.

Welcome to the Applicatory!

Hello readers! Welcome to my blog! This is my first attempt to start a real information blog that I hope can gain some attention from you guys. I used to write so many dramatical blogs in the past and I aim to change direction and write something useful for a change. I don't plan to invite any of my friends right now because I want to see first if any passerbys can check this out.

Anyway now I'm here to bring out my personal picks of some of the finest software out there that you may or may not have heard of. Enjoy!
